A Vermont craftsman at work, creating architectural metal components, hand forged hardware and unique custom metal creations.
Chelsie Bush
Burnt Bearing Studios, owner and craftsman
A born and raised Vermonter, my young life was infused with art and doing things by hand, thanks to my artist mother and blacksmith father.
Between high school and college, I spent a year working for a local carpenter learning the craft and skills of the carpentry trade. I spent summers during college fine-tuning my welding skills and working for two of my uncles at Hilltop Metal Fabrications, a full service metal shop in southern Ohio. At Alfred University I studied sculpture and glassblowing, and received my BFA in 2000.
After graduation, I spent summers as a glass assistant at Pilchuck Glass School, and found myself contemplating making the west coast my home. I was ultimately drawn back to my Vermont roots, to be closer to my family, and to start a career in artistic metalwork.
I have been working in the metal fabrication trade since 2002, when I ran Birdseye Metal and Glass, a division of Birdseye Building Company. During those years I gained a great deal of experience designing and building custom handrails, metal features, and one-of-a-kind furniture pieces.
As the sole proprietor of Burnt Bearing Studios, which I began operating in 2015, I specialize in custom architectural components and artistic ventures. I focus on projects that unite hand forged and welded components…ultimately creating an end product that is a combination of functional design and fine craftsmanship. I enjoy working on my own designs as well as collaborations with architects, contractors and homeowners.
Please contact us to discuss your metal fabrication needs. Studio visits by appointment only.
